The lesson today was reviewing question words and teaching
the students a song to help remember them. It was to the Gilligan’s Island
theme. I know from my classes that using songs in language classes helps the
students to understand and remember different concepts. The students are being
assessed today by the teacher asking questions and then either answering them
or working together to answer them. There’s about 10% of the class spent on
direct instruction and 89% on cooperative learning with the teacher asking
stuff and the students answering. There is no independent learning in class and
minimal discussion. The teacher’s very good at fixing misconceptions and
correcting them. There are no exit slips or anything like that ever.
